Linux Mint 6KDE FlashDrive Install - no start menu on reboot

Postby hellsbellz on Thu May 07, 2009 11:16 am

Having followed the instructions on the website for installing the above I keep hitting a stumbling block.

After installing the iso onto a dvd and running the dvd I am instructed to reboot the computer from the dvd to launch the start menu:

Installing Linux Mint 6 KDE to a USB Flash Drive via the Live CD

3. Burn the ISO to a DVD
4. Start your Computer from the Linux Mint DVD
5. (1) Click the Linux Mint Start Menu Icon (2) From the search box, type term (3) click the Terminal option that appears

However on reboot the start menu does not appear, I then re-tried with the third option which is supposed to assist the reboot and still don't get a start menu.

I have tried going into the C: Mint folder and running the wubildr.exe and then get an error message saying that ntvdm.exe has stopped working and has to close. I have also tried re-downloading the software and re-buring the disc.

I'm using vista service pack 1.

Any suggestions greatly received! :?

Linux Mint is funded by ads and donations.

3. Burn the ISO to a DVD
4. Start your Computer from the Linux Mint DVD

And it does not start
This implies a bad DVD
Did you check the md5sum? In Windows you have to install a third party program for that - and note that it is the md5sum of the entire DVD you calculate and compare to the one on the download page
Did you burn as slow as possible?

I can run the dvd and get the below screen. I choose the first option and am prompted to restart the computer (which I do) and then nothing happens and I basically keep going in a loop!

OK - I think I understand now (but it still can be a bad DVD)
You insert the DVD when Windows is running - I've never thought of that :) strangely enough now that we have mint4win
If "nothing" happens in the sense that you boot back into Windows you must change the boot sequence in BIOS to have CD/DVD first (or some such - on some laptops there's a special menu for that)
If literally "nothing" happens with the correct boot sequence then I think it's a bad DVD
If nothing happens as in the DVD starts to boot but gets stuck after a while then press any key when it counts down and select Compatibility mode
