Laptop install HP Pavilion DV7-2018TX - (SOLVED)

Postby Dardarian on Wed May 20, 2009 3:48 pm

Hi Guys

In the light of my recent laptop meltdown issues I have purchased a new machine:
HP Pavilion DV7-2018TX
Core Duo P8700 (2.53 GHz)
500 GB HD
4096 MB DDR2 SDRAM
ATI Mobility Radeon HD 4650 Graphics card with 1024MB DDR3 dedicated onboard

I ran the live CD and all went well but then the process ended with the command line and it didn't take me through into X nor any of the setup screens - just the CLI...

Now I love Linux especially Mint - but I am not yet uber enough for the command line!!

Caould someone tell me what is up please? Is my hardware too shiny and new and not supported (I suspect the Graphics card)? Are there any workarounds...?

Here's hoping

Thanks
David

Linux Mint is funded by ads and donations.

Avoid bumping an unanswered post - this removes it from the unanswered list and from my eyes - I opened a lot of tabs yesterday that I go through today
You have a total of over 5 GB memory - you need to run the 64 bit edition
If you //already// do - use Compatibility mode I think the video card may be too new
Hopefully the proprietary ATI driver can handle this - the Radeon driver may be the problem

Don't fix it if it ain't broken, don't break it if you can't fix it

Sorry - sure thing - didn't mean to be pushy either.

Just can't wait to get VISTA off my PC - 10 crashes plus a day is sapping my will to live!!
I will try the 64 bit version - thanks so much for help.

Will let you know how it goes.
