[SOLVED] Failure to Boot Live CD

Postby mer6 on Wed May 27, 2009 5:34 pm

I'm trying to load Linux Mint 7 onto my Sony Vaio laptop; I've used Linux Mint 4, 5, and 6 before it and I am currently on Ubuntu 9.04 while I was awaiting Mint 7, but the CD does not seem to boot correctly. Here's what happens, maybe you guys can help me out (and if not I'll just hope that I can solve it some time, heh):

1. Splash screen comes up, loads up /casper/vmlinuz or something and another file with a similar name following the "automatic boot in 10".
2. Loading screen comes up, stays there for a couple of minutes while it happily bounces back and forth in the progress bar.
3.
*PulseAudio configured for per-user sessions
saned disabled; edit /etc/default/saned
*Starting System Tools Backends system-tools-backends
...done.
*Starting deferred excecution scheduler atd
...done.
*Starting periodic command scheduler crond
...done.
*Enabling additional executable binary formats binfmt-support
FATAL: Could not load /lib/modules/2.6.28-11-generic/modules.dep: No such file or directory
update-binfmts: warning: Couldn't load the binfmt_misc module.
...done.
'linux' is an unknown terminal type
*Checking battery state...

/dev/sda:
setting Advanced Power Management level to 0xfe (254)

/dev/sda:
setting Advanced Power Management level to 0xfe (254)
...done.

It hangs after that. Any thoughts?

EDIT1: I have 2GB of RAM, a 1.73GHz Intel Processor, and an 80GB hard drive in the laptop, of what I guess I'd consider relevant hardware.
EDIT2: Compatibility mode seems to be working after going through this hanging process a couple of times, I'm going to press further.
EDIT3: Solved. Unsure as to how.

Linux Mint is funded by ads and donations.
