installation on new gigabyte laptop has no mouse or keyboard

Postby vadali on Sun May 31, 2009 1:23 pm

Hi,

I got me a new laptop, and decided to give mint a choice.
When the computer boots up, keyboard is working great, also the first boot menu on the installation cd works great. once i choose to load mint up (tried both Installer only and full mint live) - only then the keyboard stops responding (as in capslock doesnt change colors anymore), and the mouse and keyboard do not respond.

An extra usb mouse which i had laying around here managed to work, and I am now making my way through the installation by copy-pasting from random sources the needed letters (for my username password, hdd partitioning etc..).

I am yet to know if the full install will fix it, i must run now, but this is really not a great start with mint..

How can we make it recognize the keyboard and mouse??

thanks,
vadali

Linux Mint is funded by ads and donations.

ok, really quick update.
the install finished wonderfully in a few minutes, but still no mouse keyboard (only external usb mouse)...

soooooo

i changed the keyboard device (under Control Center -> Hardware -> Keyboard ----> layouts -> keyboard model) to Winbook Model XP5 ( a totally random pick), rebooted and walllah! keyboard and mouse!

yey for me, still though.. harsh start :)
