and took the mint4win .exe out
?
You just put the Mint CD in the drive and it autotstarts under Windows giving you the opportunity to install
Admittedly I have only done it once - only one computer with Windows and enough space in the Windows partition

What motherboard do you have? as you will need to change the boot priority in your bios as at the moment your motherboard is booting your hard dive first and not you CD drive =]

Some Toshiba laptops have some BIOS setting that stops anything but Vista from booting, but as the selection is done from the Windows boot loader I don't think it's that
Could be a faulty CD even if it's highly unlikely given that you've come this far
I don't know how boot works in Vista or Windows 7 so I can't help you there but in XP the file to look at was boot.ini
Something prevents the change to the boot loader...

I dont mean like that, some motherboards are setup so that the boot order goes
[1] Hard Drive
[2] Floppy
[3] CD-Rom
So it would need to be say:
[1] CD-Rom
[2] Floppy
[3] Hard Drive
As an example
so it would boot windows without him seeing the LiveCD at all because the PC doesn't go there first

Well I'm having the same issue, but my setup is completely different.
I have 2 HD, one has Windows 7 on it and the other I am installing Mint7x64. After it's done installing, I shutdown and reboot, and it goes straight to Windows, like Grub wasn't even installed. And typically Grub installs onto the Win boot drive, if not please correct me.
Thanks

thanks to the new post I can see I obviously never read the original problem...
