Postby mehdi0016 on Mon Jun 08, 2009 3:04 am

hi
i want to install mint7 from dvd, but i can't boot up by mint dvd.
when boot i have just this line :
"isolinux 3.36 2007-02-10 copyright (C) 1994-2007 H. Peter Anvin"
and then just a black screen, neither hard works nor dvdram, and after few minutes system hangs (beep sound when press any key).
i can boot normally with ubuntu 8.1 live cd when disable the usb-legacy on my mainboard setup.

my system hardware :
cpu: core2dou E7400
main: intel DG31PR
hdd: 250 gb maxtor sata
dvdrw: liteon dvdram (sata)
ram: 2 gb

please help me.

I have a very similar problem. My Mint 7 disc boots ok from my laptop and I used it to install a couple of weeks ago. I am trying to install Mint 7 onto my brother's PC on a new hard drive. Ubuntu 9.04 boots and runs the live environment perfectly. Mint 7, however, does not boot, it produces:

Vesamenu .C32:attempted DOS system call
boot:

This repeats for quite a while before failing.
Any ideas anybody?

I wish I could help you but the best I could do was this search.

Happily I am able to answer my own question!
I was unable to boot from the LInux MInt 7 cd, getting stuck at "Vesamenu .C32:attempted DOS system call
boot:"

The quick answer is to type the word "LIVE" after the word "boot:"

The slightly longer answer is to open the CD in another PC and open the Isolinux folder then open Isolinux cfg.file in a text editor. Look for the word "Label", whatever comes after this is what you need to type at the boot screen. A partial copy of mine is below.

....label live menu label Start Linux Mint kernel /casper/vmlinuz append file=/cdrom/preseed/mint.seed boot=casper initrd=/casper/initrd.gz quiet splash --
menu default
label xforcevesa
menu ......

As you can see "live" is the word following "label". This works for me whereas the other suggestions of typing "Linux or Linux0" did not work.
