How old tower?
This is a nasty error that probably is caused by the age
Look in the motherboard section of the live CD troubleshooter
I have rewritten it a little bit, the live CD starts differently now than when it was originally written
You should add the option noapic as described
I can't promise you it will solve it for you but there's a good chance
