[Solved] gdm start fails on local; no xdmcp server

I can successfully "Ctrl-Alt-F1" & login via console; have tried [xdmcp] enable=false in /etc/gdm/gdm.conf-custom to no avail
...
(they both now have "Include" entries in /etc/gdm/gdm.conf-custom & I'm sure I looked at disabling remote login via gdmsetup's gui).

I might try this, comment out or just have a minimal gdm.conf file as a test, just enough to start and investigate xdmcp sections..

Control section for local X servers. Each line indicates the local display number and the command that needs to be run to start the X server(s). GDM will append "-auth <ServAuthDir>/:n.Xauth :n", where n is the display number.
