It might if you had to install windows onto the computer yourself; I assume that the laptop came pre-installed with a windows OS..

--the usual suggestion, try a bios update from the manufacturer, or..
- On boot with Linux, acpi= off
- Disable non essential devices in the bios
--those not needed to start the machine, like usb , floppy support and so on
