Sorry to hear you are having problems.

It is always a good idea to post the full spec of your machine as someone with a similar spec may have had problems. Also which version of Mint are you trying to install and whether it ran OK as a live cd.

Are you trying to dual boot with Windows 7?

Make a new partition from the free space on your hard drive. Seven or eight gigabytes should do it.
You can do this in Windows disk management or use a third party app like EASEUS.

Install Mint in that partition. That's how I installed Mint 7 and Windows 7 on my computer. Works like a charm.

Going back to basics.

Did the live cd run OK on your machine?

Have you tried downloading Mint 7 X64 and running that as a live cd?

Having googled your problem the only reference I can find is a bug report on Ubuntu Hardy which matches your problem.

It certainly sounds as though your setup is 64 bit but it should still run on the 32 bit version. Have you tried any other distro just in case there is some clash with the ubuntu type os. I would suggest that you download PcLinuxOS and see if that will load. If that has a problem then I would check out the hardware.

Good Luck.

I've had a similar problem. I cured it by deleting a partition suing the Live CD, then installing: I think the installer can't always cope with deleting a partition and installing in one operation?
