fyi, I get around the issue by passing pciehp.pciehp_force=1 to the kernel at boot.
edit the GRUB boot menu
- esc (escape key) key
--when you see the boot menus from grub; gets you into the grub mini editor on boot - e
--edit the boot line kernel line, something like this - kernel /boot/vmlinuz-2.6.28-13-generic root=/dev/sda5 ro quiet splash
change to - kernel /boot/vmlinuz-2.6.28-13-generic root=/dev/sda5 ro quiet splash pciehp.pciehp_force=1
