Unable to boot Vista after installation

Postby LukeZ on Mon Jul 20, 2009 9:46 am

Dear LM community,

I tried to install LM dual-boot with windows vista in my toshiba laptop. I followed the instructions (including manual partition allocation ...) Everything went pretty smoothly. LM now is up and running beautifully. However when I choose to boot vista, it fails (it goes to the repair mode and tries to fix some problem but doesn't succeed.) Has anyone encountered similar problem and been able to solve it (without losing data on the vista partition of course)? If you need more details, please be free to ask. I really appreciate your help!!!

I am new so can't help much, but open Terminal and type "gedit /boot/grub/menu.lst" and put the results here. And open Control Center and click on Partition Editor and put the partition info here also. That way the Guru's can take a look at everything and see where the mismatch is.

Alternatively (and thanks to markcynt for this information) you can follow the instructions here to correct the Vista boot:
http://neosmart.net/wiki/display/EBCD/R ... om+the+DVD
Then you can follow these instructions to edit the Vista booter (but then you will not be using the Grub booter):
http://neosmart.net/wiki/display/EBCD/Linux
http://neosmart.net/wiki/display/EBCD/Ubuntu

But before doing the alternative, see what the experts say after you post the info here.
