Can't Get Printer To Work In XCFE Mint 7

Postby Ronny49 on Tue Jul 21, 2009 10:47 pm

I turned my USB Canon PIXMA (all-in-one) MP830 printer on
and the printer set-up came up. That was cool...

But there was no instant driver available and so it went into
a search for a driver and found one that listed it as the exact
driver needed.

it went through the entire set-up and finished. I then went to
try and print a page from Firefox and it scheduled the job,
though it will not print!

What could be wrong here? Every thing seemed to install fine,
yet it won't print. I now have two jobs in the que, one being a
test print page.

I looked in properties and it actually says printer is busy. But
it isn't doing a thing!

Help!

Nope! But I will try that. The driver that installed was the one MINT installed from its
database. The install went fine and everything looked successful, though when I went
to print, NADA!

EDIT: after visiting that site and reading the remarks, it's a little of a bummer
that Linux still cannot do what windows or the mac can.

Can't wait for them to catch up! But we need more motivation amongst the programmers.

It is not a fault of Linux. Talk to Canon about it. They have not been very forthcoming with good, timely Linux drivers for their hardware.

Perhaps then, you would like to join the revolution (instead of bashing it) by writing some open source Canon printer drivers?

Dude... I am not bashing Linux! And I know NOTHING about coding as I am NEW to Linux as stated in other posts of mine.
I also have a health blog and that in itself takes up a lot of my time.

Take Care 8)

You would be more correct in saying what windows can do, as Apple is not really tied into the windows supported manufacturers' group, except that manufacturers see only platforms/products/devices, and so have a hard time visualizing a business model for a Linux OS

Until Louis Lagendijk, a Linux user like many of us, acquired his new PIXMA MP970, and started to work on demystifying this BJNP Canon protocol, for his own needs, to have his printer work over the network. Louis first designed a Cups printing driver, that works with all network PIXMA printers running the BJNP protocol
