HDD detecting order on boot

Postby Euth on Mon Jul 27, 2009 2:09 am

Hello, Gentlemen.

Here is my problem: after appending SATA drive to my IDE-based system I was unable to load Mint. It just drops to ash after booting logo, saying no sda6 part (which is Mint system one) were found. I've loaded from boot CD and saw, that for some nasty reason now SATA drive is sda, while main body is sdb. That's a little odd, because in bios ide on bus 0, while sata on bus 2.

So, could you help me solve this problem? Perhaps there is a way to make kernel detect IDE before SATA?

Linux Mint is funded by ads and donations.

This came up in the posts about hard drives, I haven't searched to find poster who made that suggestions, but pysdm may help you get a handle on drive connections..

In terminal, check
    apt search Pysdm
p pysdm - Graphical Storage Device Manager

OK, I checked, I think this is the original poster

In a terminal: sudo apt-get install pysdm
Then: sudo pysdm
The gui is easier to follow than all this tread.

Take a look at this HowTo from the Mint wiki.

Thanks, Atlef. It works now!
DrHu, I think it's not a solution for what exactly I mean, but thanks for response :)
