Would there by any chance be a hidden Factory Recovery partition on the drive ?

To check, you will have to boot the Live CD again, and once at the desktop, go to Menu -> Administration -> Partition Manager ( GParted ).
This will show you your hard drive configuration . . you can make changes right from there if you want . . . before you do the install !

If you want, you can take a screenshot & post it back here, right from the Live CD.
