linux mint/xp slave problem

Hi am new to linux have just dual booted linux mint with xp all seemed to go well, but my slave drive has now changed from ntfs to fat16 have i lost all the files on this drive? or are they recoverable.
xp and mint boot ok there is some files i need off the slave.
don't think i mounted the drive on installation of mint .
Hope someone can help.

Filesystems don't magically change unless you have specifically reformatted that partition to fat16. If you did that then your files are probably unrecoverable.

Insert and boot from the Mint Live CD, open a terminal and type:

sudo fdisk -l

and show us the output so we can see what partitions you now have.
