Boot failure on a Toshiba Tecra 8000 laptop

I have Umbutu 5.1 installed on my Toshiba Tecra 8000 laptop, 4 GB HD 128 Ram
I can't get the USR wireless card, to work & theres no sound, so I want to try LinuxMint (MiniKDE)
It take ages to boot, when it does the system is hung, no keyboard or mouse, so I can't install it from here.
I have tried all the options, but it's no good.
Is there a way to install it onto the hard drive, instead of the live CD.
I would like to try Linux Mint as it seems to be what I require.

If you h ve 128 MB of RAM I'm afraid it's way below the minimum requirement.

The E17 edition is smaller but I don't know about memory requirement

I download E17 & booted my Toshiba laptop.
I worked out you log on as mint, no password.
Now what? How do install it on my HD, how do I configure the wireless network. If I can do these 2 things I can then install more software etc.

I have not downloaded it - to slow connection atm.
There should be an icon on the desktop "Install" - or?
For wireless what's in this forum should be valid

I have had the same problem with mint-e17.

it is more of a proof of concept beta, or a gamma IMHO.
wait for the next beta to be released at least.
check the e17 dev posts.
