FATAL: Could not load /lib/modules/2.6.28-11-generic/modules

Postby brezz on Tue Sep 01, 2009 6:53 am

Greetings from Vienna,

I am really new to Linux. After playing around for some weeks, I decided to change to Linux (Mint, of course), and try to get away from MS.

About two weeks ago, the downloaded ISO worked perfect. Now I changed my CPU, and added one more HDD.
And now, with the same ISO-File (both USB-Stick and DVD), comes the message:

FATAL: Could not load /lib/modules/2.6.28-11-generic/modules.dep: No such file or directory

The installation continues (live or HDD) after this message without problems, but the wording FATAL makes me nervous.

Any ideas would really be appreciated. And please remember, I'm completely new to Linux.

Best Regards

Linux Mint is funded by ads and donations.

That's rather odd. Try running:

Code: Select all
sudo depmod

Thanks for the quick reply.

But, maybe important, this happens during the boot process: menu to select (i.e. check dvd) -> starting the booting process -> ready. and now the message comes, but boot goes on (live or HDD-install). So, when to do the "sudo"?

Sorry for maybe silly questions, but i was surprised that the same iso worked well, and now...
I googled, but new X3 processor should not be a problem.
The only thing in Google I found is really old, but maybe helpful for you:

I don't really think it should matter if it's only on the install disk - as long as your installation works fine, that's all that matters really.

Perfect answer, i was hoping for such a reply...

So I will make my last-time install today, and let's see how long it takes to change completely to Linux.

Thanks again, and from my point of view this is solved.
