Boot again using the Live CD. Open a terminal and type the following commands and show us the output to these commands:

sudo fdisk -l
df -h
dmesg | grep -i error

Yes, those error messages above from dmesg show you have a faulty hard drive. Find out exactly the make/model of hard drive (cat /proc/scsi/scsi) and then download and burn the UltimateBootCD and see of you can repair the drive with the hard drive tools. Often it does not work, but sometimes you might get lucky.
