Need some help with this.
I recently install LM7 on my Dell inspiron 9300 laptop. I have been using Elyssa dual booting with XP. At first problems were encountered with the installing dual booting, but I discovered this was due to the the windows XP installation on the ntfs partition was frozen using the DeepFreeze software by Faronics. After a complete uninstall of this software from the windows partition the live CD was able to work. This may be useful for anyone who is using that software.
My problem now is that I cannot get mintinstall and mintupdate to work. I am getting the message:
"Could not refresh list of packages" (mintupdate)
"Backing up your APT sources". Mintinstall hangs on this screen.
Syaptic Package manager gave the following error detail:
E: Encountered a section with no Package: header
E: Problem with MergeList /var/lib/apt/lists/packages.linuxmint.com_dists_gloria_main_binary-i386_Packages
E: The package lists or ostatus file could not be parsed or opened.
E: _cache->open() failed, please report.
I suspect that some of the files on the installation disk might have been corrupted or not copied during installation. Could someone please assist with a solution which can avoid a re-installation.
Update (17 Sep 2009, 12:51 am):
I tried this command in a terminal: sudo apt-get update.
Got the following error message:
Fetched 9391B in 2s (3435B/s)
E: Could not get lock /var/lib/dpkg/lock - open (11 Resource temporarily unavailable)
E: Unable to lock the administration directory (/var/lib/dpkg/), is another process using it?
