Mint4Win trial...

Post by FreeImposter »

I apologize if this thread is posted in the wrong place of the forum...

Right now I currently have mint4win installing Mint 7 "Gloria" onto it's own virtual partition on "my" main hard drive (I place the word 'my' in quotes because this is my family's computer, and not actually my own.) I've been interested in Linux for quite some time now, but for whatever reason, I've never seriously looked into or considered it until just today. I've never tried any distro's of Linux, and I looked into a few before hitting up Mint (I actually also found a test through a Google search that asks you some questions based on your computer knowledge and what type of uses you're looking for in an OS and Mint was one of those listed as 'compatible' for me, hence how I even heard of it to begin with). I'm really hoping Mint is what I think I've been looking for. If so, I definitely plan on running a full install on the next computer I buy for myself, and while maybe not running it as my only OS, if Mint and I hit it off quite well, I can assume it will be my primary. I also, being a newb/novice I'm probably going to be sticking to GUI use for a bit, but I love to learn, and am looking forward to learning to use the fabled command line.

Anyway, no REAL point to all of this, except to let everyone (novice and guru alike) know that I'm dipping my feet into the world of Linux, I have high hopes, and I'm not at all worried about these hopes being dashed (which is more than I can say for most Windows releases).

With that, hi all.

Ok, so install was smooth. I'm actually posting this while running FF on Mint. :D
So far I'm impressed, and while my Linux experience will more than likely be cut short pretty soon as this isn't my own computer, I'm for sure going to be installing Mint on the next PC I buy.

Thanks for a great OS guys!

Well done and welcome, don't forget to ask if you need any help. :D
p.s. I'm actually running this session from a usb stick, so there are ways to run mint without actually installing it.

Thanks. :D
At this point, I'm looking into buying an external and installing on that. I figure I'm going to want one anyway when I do actually buy a PC (so I can take music, movies, games, etc to girlfriend's/friend's houses), so I should just pick one up and carry it around with me. Externals have gotten surprisingly smaller and fairly well priced recently. My buddy was able to pick up a 1TB external slightly bigger than a deck of cards (albeit a little thinner as well) for less than $200 on sale somewhere. I'll probably just look into that.
