I was trying to re partition my hard drive some I could dual boot windows. I accidentally re partitioned my whole drive and lost everything. I'm not worried about the OS much cuz I could just reinstall it. I am worried about loosing the 16 gigs of music I had. Before I started I made a back up for all the music. What am I going to have to do to get it back. I can't seem to find my linux mint live CD so I am using a ubuntu one to post on this forum.. Is there a partition recovery tool that I could use?

Before I re partitioned the hard drive I had 16 gigs of music. I just want to recover that music so I don't have to download it all again. I used the backup thing that came with mint and used it to only back up the music folder.

I hope you backed it up to a different hard drive or you are in trouble. As you've already stated you reformatted your entire drive, so your music is gone. In theory the files are still on the disk, but your partition table is gone, so there is no way to read the files by standard means. The only possibility you have now is to use some sort of data recovery tool.

Testdisk is usually pretty good for recovering deleted partitons, and photorec is good for files.
