Not Loading Linux Mint

Postby kidcharm on Tue Jan 05, 2010 1:17 pm

Hello:

I am trying to upgrade an old tower to Mint, and I am having some trouble. I burned the ISO and the boot record is found when I go into BIOS and make the CD-ROM the only thing to boot from...but then it just restarts the CPU and doesn't load up the Mint screen. Then when I allow the hard drive to be recognized again in the boot sequence, Windows loads up.

What am I doing wrong or what did I miss?

How old? It sounds like a bad burn actually, can you check if it boots in a different PC?

It's not too old...but I tried loading it on another cpu and it didn't load either.

What are specs needed for Mint exactly? I know that it is newer Ubuntu...would I have more luck with a version of Ubuntu?

As I said probably a bad burn. I would burn again at the slowest speed.

If all else fails, try Puppy Linux. It works great on older computers.
