Hello.

Do I need to upgrade from the RC1 kde version of mint to the final version, or is it done automatically?

If you have updated through Mint Update Manager, then you are already running the "Stable" release !

how can I check the version of my kde release?

For the edition of Mint you are running, type in a terminal

cat /etc/linuxmint/info

For the edition of KDE you are running,

kde4-config --version
