Mint 8 and win7 dual boot

Hi all, i wanted to try linux mint8, i had windows vista as my default os and recently i dual booted with windows7 . Now i deleted vista and installed mint over it, problem is i am not able to log into win7 anymore !!! please help me. I cannot use the win7 repair disk also to fixmbr using bootrec it says disk failure after that and makes me lose my mint as well . Please help .

Go through these steps to get your drive in working order again, and then we'll work on getting Mint installed.

this works ..

beyond this it says bcd not found

Then use the rebuild option.

Oooof! Your only recourse at this point is to attempt to restore the partitions using gpart or some other rescue utility.

hi all, i did something stupid and all my partitions got deleted ..
i installed windows 7 ultimate fresh again, but now carefully on the first primary partition.
I want mint8 now, tell me the right way to do it so that my grub entry to win7 works without me having to change ne thing ..

What is drive F: <Aaidi> used for?.

that would be a good partition to reformat & use for the mint to install over / erase / re-use.

just point the partition manager to that & format it.

that drive holds all my projects and stuff .. also few games :P :P .. cant i shrink D: ??

if that means a single hard disk .. yes only one hard disk .. its a laptop ..

Back up the data on D: then shrink the partition to the desired size. You should then have plenty of room for the Mint installation.

should i create the new partition as a logical one or a primary ? file system does not matter right ? and can i leave it as unformatted and my mint can take over directly and make it ext4 file system. i hope i aint talking stupid things :P

Leave it as a logical partition. And yes, you are correct in assuming that you can assign the file system type during the install.

when the file system can be chosen at install time, why should i even make a partition of it ? Cant i leave it as unformatted space ? If i installed mint in it, would i get grub error ? I hate it :( i want my grub to automatically have win7 and work properly.
