Add support for localized Ubuntu repositories

Please, for god sake :(

I'm not a "novice" in Linux's world, I begun with Slackware, so I'm used to edit text documents and change everything in the system to get what I want.

But, with Ubuntu, even when I start it from a USB key and don't have the option to change the language and, so, the mirror's it uses to retrieve the updates and so on, I can still easily select its repositories for my country (Brazil) in Synaptic. With mint I have to manually edit the URLs. It's not complicated, but for a novice user who never really used linux, it's hell D:

ps.: I'm saying this because with the standart archive.ubuntu.com I get 1/3 of the speed I get from br.archive.ubuntu.com

It doesn't work for many, many countries U_U try looking for brazil there, for example.

Yeah, but in Linux Mint, selecting a local mirror in the Synaptic software sources dialog only changes the mirror to local for packages specific to Linuxmint. After I've made that change, generic Ubuntu packages are still being downloaded from the main mirror. This is what my sources.list looks like after selecting the local au mirror - only the linuxmint-packages are coming from the local mirror:

Code: Select all

deb http://mirror.aarnet.edu.au/pub/linuxmint-packages/ isadora main upstream import
deb http://archive.ubuntu.com/ubuntu/ lucid main restricted universe multiverse
deb http://archive.ubuntu.com/ubuntu/ lucid-updates main restricted universe multiverse
deb http://security.ubuntu.com/ubuntu/ lucid-security main restricted universe multiverse
deb http://archive.canonical.com/ubuntu/ lucid partner
deb http://packages.medibuntu.org/ lucid free non-free
I have to manually edit sources.list to get Ubuntu packages from the mirror my ISP maintains, which is not only much faster but also unmetered.

The RC of Mint 14 still has this same shortcoming. Selecting my local mirror only changes the download location for linuxmint-packages. I still have to manually edit sources.list to get Ubuntu packages from my local mirror.
