Mint 9 won't write partition table

Post by sevengraff »

Hello, I hope someone can help.

I'm trying to install Mint 9 (64bit) but it fails when trying to set up my partitions.
here are the settings I want to use:

and here is the error message:

http://img820.imageshack.us/img820/6500/second.png

I have tried using different partition settings (no /home partition, using ReiserFS instead of EXT4, ect) but the result is the same. Currently the hard drives have one partition for / and 4 gigs for swap. I am doing a new install over my Mint 8 32bit install.

Also, the /dev/mapper/pdc_fj.... whatever is just two 80 gig hard drives that Mint keeps putting together as a Raid 1. I'd rather it not do that but mint 8 did the same thing and I didn't know how to get around it so I figured I would keep it for the benefit of surviving a hard drive failure.

If someone could help me install mint 9 I would really appreciate it! Let me know if I need to post more information.

Here is the output of lspci:

I would like to help. I need more information. The
http://img819.imageshack.us/img819/5818/firstn.png file shows that you have one disk with two partitions.
/dev/sda1 20 GB
/dev/sda2 200GB

You are trying to make three partitions 20 GB for /, 60 GB for home and 5 GB for swap. The problem is that you have 220GB used for two primary partitions. What is the size of your disk? What do you have on twp primary partitions (1 and 2)? If disk is larger than 220GB then remaining part can be used and it must be more than 85 GB (total of additional partitions. Please clarify or answer the requested information.
