I know I'm missing something basic, but I can't imagine what. When the installer gets to the Prepare partitions stage I get:
Device Type Size
/dev/sda
/dev/sda1 ntfs 60011 MB
I can set sda1 up to mount the ntfs as /windows but I can see no way of changing the size of it without first clearing the entire partition and then hitting ADD. The User Guide says:
I can't find this "interface" unless they mean the dialogue boxes that show up later. If you are already running another operating system on your computer and you want to
dual boot with Linux Mint, the easiest solution is to allow the installer to resize your
existing partitions. It provides an interface that lets you define the space you want to
allocate to Linux Mint
I presume "Edit" means hit the "Change" button, but that doesn't allow me to resize. I've been searching around and found someone who said:If the existing partitions on your hard drive take all the space and you can’t create any
new partitions, you can “Edit” a partition and change its size.
When I double clicked, nothing happened. But the only Yellow Alert I saw was a warning that the contents of the drive could be wiped. There was a triangular yellow alert for the Windows partition. I double clicked it and, apparently, the filesystem check performed by Mint failed.
I found a nice graphical guide here: http://linuxbsdos.com/2010/05/26/manual ... ntu-10-04/ but he starts with NO OS installed. He also says:
But I don't see this option. If the hard drive on your computer is not empty, the installer will inform you that “This computer has [operating system XYZ] on it,” and the default option will be to “Install them side by side, choosing between them at startup.”
The live CD runs fine, so I don't think the burn went wrong.
What am I doing wrong?
