I would like to install linux mint to a bootable flash drive. I was wondering if this is possibe?
I used this guide
http://www.pendrivelinux.com/run-linux- ... ash-drive/
to install to a flash drive. After installation it booted up as a live cd with the installer on the desktop and no user settings.
This is not what i wanted to achieve, I wanted to install with user settings etc... to the flash drive. My flash drive is 8 gb big and im wondering if this is possible.

Re: Installing to USB Flash
You want to keep user settings on a USB install of Linux Mint? In that case, you need a persistent USB flash drive installation, which can be achieved either with Pendrive Linux (I recall that they have a tool to easily create a casper-rw file) or with Mint's own USB Startup Creator.
Re: Installing to USB Flash
I've created two Mint 9 pendrives now, one 3GB and one 6GB.
I created them using these instructions:
http://www.pendrivelinux.com/create-a-l ... #more-3812
Both work really well, boot quickly, and seem to run without problems.
The only issue I have is they don't appear to be running persistently.
I've installed WICD and Skype twice on each one and if I reboot, the installation is gone.
Anyone have any idea what I'm doing wrong?
Thanks,
Hoosemon

Re: Installing to USB Flash
burn a mint livecd and use the usb startup creator to make a persistent usb. i have had many problems with lili live usb creator and files becoming corrupt and irreparable (/etc/mtab and even worse /etc/resolv.conf). the mint usb startup disk creator works great, no problems after a few weeks of usage on my 4gb usb.
