I can see people having the same issue under Ubuntu:

http://ubuntuforums.org/showthread.php?t=513546

Apparently they're using the Alternate CD (there's none for Mint). Somebody mentioned a way to tweak the liveCD install but his link is dead....

Someone said it stated to use these commands to get it to work.
sudo echo piix >> /etc/initramfs-tools/modules
sudo update-initramfs -u
exit
Also this link may help you.

just follow this as i have said and it should work fine for you...

just put the live cd highlight the 2nd line,by pressing down botton once and click F6 and delete "quiet splash-- and replace it with "break=top" it will boot, when it stop type again "modprobe piix" then some things will load up again and after that, type in "exit" then it will boot you into live with save mode.you should have the chance to install it from there,i hope this help ;)

boot problem solved on linuxmint 4 beta 2

Postby sercik on Thu Nov 01, 2007 4:58 am

I have deleted "quiet splash --" and I have added (to be sure) "noapic nolapic all ide_generic" in the second line at boot
then I have installed new bios version and i have set hard disk as ide and not ahci
