Dear Wizards,
First I want to thank you all for contributing, helping and building this magnificent OS - I love Mint!
That's why I want it as my primary OS on my computers. I have a 60 Gb USB HDD, and I want to install the Mint on it, so that I can transport my OS to and work on every new computer I meet. I have tried the Live Persistent install, but had some problems concerning updates, and besides, it only gave me 4 Gb of persistent space.
I have also tried installing the full version on the drive, and afterwards plugging and USBbooting it on my other computers (I have a ASUS eee900 netbook and a stationary PC). It gets confused by the different hardware, and thus driver faults and resolution errors occur.
So my question is:
Is it possible to make the full install check the hardware and then load appropriate drivers each bootup? In that case, how do I do it?
Regards,
Andreas

Re: How to make a full install check new hardware every boot
Welcome To Linux Mint
If you are running The Gnome Desktop version of Linux Mint you can set the Current running applications ( drivers load by default ) to load on startup by going to =
System menu, Click on System,Preferences, Startup Applications
OR
System Menu,Control Panel, Startup Applications
Inside the Startup Applications you can Check & make those Applications Run @ Startup,( as well as Check for drivers ) Also there is a Advanced Tab that will give you the option to automatically remember the currently running Applications.
Hopefully this may solve your issue, Have a Good Day.

Re: How to make a full install check new hardware every boot
Well, I don't quite see how - What programs should I check or uncheck to make the drivers reload? None of the current startup programs concerns driver loading, except the Restricted Hardware Driver program, and I don't think that's the one I'm looking for.
Please excuse my newbieness about this..

As far as I Know the Drivers, Once installed, Should Load at startup on Every Boot. The Restricted driver Tool , If checked in the startup program list will search for new or new versions of restricted Drivers.
Re: How to make a full install check new hardware every boot
Linux should automatically detect hardware on boot and load the proper kernel modules to support that hardware. Of course, problems arise when the hardware in question isn't supported out of the box. What "driver faults and resolution errors" have you seen? Providing a few specifics would help us, help you.
