Can You Recommend Which Mint to Install?

Ive spent the better part of the week trying to install Ubuntu onto my system. Different versions... Ubuntu, Ubuntu Mini, Ubuntu ALT, etc. Someone recommended I try Xubuntu, so I will try that as well tonite. Another person also recommended that if I have no success with any Ubuntu's, I try out Linux Mint. Well, here I am

Ive got a PIII-900mhtz laptop. Actually two of them. One has 512 ram, the other has 256. Id like both to have linux on them if possible.

Which version of Mint should I attempt to install onto my computers? The new Celena version or maybe Cassandra Light?

It's a matter of your personal preferences and your hardware.
The laptop with 512 MB can be used with any version, while I recommend the XFCE version for the other laptop as XFCE is less resource hungry. To be able to install with 256 MB I recommend that you first boot the live CD and create a swap partition if there isn't one already. Then reboot and the live CD will use the swap and the install will be much easier (actually it is just about possible to boot the live CD with 256 MB)
If you don't prefer KDE over gnome either install Cassandra or wait for the final version of Celena - it's a beta now and we don't recommend upgrading a beta, but upgrading Cassandra will be possible.
I always recommend a clean install for major upgrades but this is from 3.0 to 3.1. I also recommend, urge you, to create a separate partition for home - it's so much easier if you are forced to reinstall
