bad checksum

Hi All,
I have downloaded the iso twice, burned them successfully, then checked the integrity of the disk before I installed. Both times I got the message that "Checksum failed twice." Before I throw the disks out just want to make sure that means the disk is bad.

Hi,

It could be a bug... the verifier using some hardcoded md5sum from the Ubuntu Live CD... If you've checked the checksum yourself, I'd say the CD is fine. I'll look into that and make sure this won't happen again for the next releases.

Excuse my ignorance, but how do you check the integrity using Checksum? After learning that, I want to learn how to use bit torrent.

in a terminal: md5sum LinuxMint-2.0.iso
the result should be: f56a393d8eb304a0647ec3b2fde8d207

I realize this is Linus 101, but in terminal do you just type in md5sum LinuxMint-2.0.iso?

well... provided you're in the right directory...

if you're not used to the terminal here are some useful commands:

- "pwd" shows you in which directory you are.
- "ls" shows you the directories (in blue) and the files from the directory you're in.
- "cd somedirectory" makes you go in that somedirectory..

When you get to the stage where ls shows you the file for the ISO.. you can call md5sum on it..

Being a complete newbie as my username indicates, I too, burned four CD's only to find 2 checksums failed twice, 3 checksums failed once and 4 checksums failed once. Upon attempting to install I first used the option "Check CD for defects" and came up with the checksums failed results. Upon re-testing the CD with the 4 bad checksums it came up with 2 checksums failed. Needless to say, it won't install either. I've never had any problems with a few of the other free Linux downloads and wonder what's happening with this one. Any suggestions would be appreciated. Thank you..........

I haven't a clue how to check with the md5sum. Aside from checking of the integrity of the burned CD with the md5sum, what do you do if it doesn't agree? I mean, if it doesn't install what else can you do? Any help here would be greatly appreciated. Thank you.......

I also got a message about two checksums being wrong, but I ignored it and installed Linux Mint 2 anyway.
I can only admit that this a great distro. I have been testing it intensively for the last two days. I works fine.
