I'd like to disable the welcoming sound when I log in to a user session in Gnome.
I went to the Control Center area Login Screen and unticked the checkbox "Play login sound" and restarted but it still gives a loud sound when login in.
Any clue ?
I am using the Isadora and I installed and updated it all today.

Re: Disable the sound at session login time
I just deleted the file.
A startup sound can get you kicked out of class. I don't want a sound, ever.
I also carry around a broken headphone plug (3.5mm mini-stereo), with its cord cut, in case I left some music playing.

Re: Disable the sound at session login time
In a terminal, paste:
Now delete/rename "desktop-login.ogg" and "system-ready.ogg", and you're done. If you rename the two files instead of deleting them, you can restore the sounds if you ever want them back by renaming them to their default names.
Code: Select all
gksudo nautilus /usr/share/sounds/LinuxMint/stereo
Re: Disable the sound at session login time
Take a look at your grub configuration file:
sudo /etc/default/grub
Scroll to the end, and see if this line is commented out:
# Uncomment to get a beep at grub start
#GRUB_INIT_TUNE="480 440 1"
sudo /etc/default/grub

Re: Disable the sound at session login time
I fixed this in Startup Applications, I unticked the checkbox Gnome Login Sound.

This worked for me. Minimum effort, maximum result. Thanxstephaneeybert wrote:I fixed this in Startup Applications, I unticked the checkbox Gnome Login Sound.
