I'm setting up mint on my mother's computer. Every once in a while GDM fails to load on startup for some reason. As a result the usual login screen disappears and I'm thrown into CLI. Running "sudo service gdm status" returns stop/waiting. From this point I can either login and "startx" or "sudo service gdm start". This happens randomly, sometimes more often (consecutive reboots) and other times it loads fine. I've reinstalled mint twice but I still keep getting this. This seems to be a timing issue. Any ideas?

A memory-problem? If there is an ext4 filesystem, it is more vulnerable with memory-errors. Ext3 uses memory different way, so it is more stable.pippy wrote:I'm setting up mint on my mother's computer. Every once in a while GDM fails to load on startup for some reason.
