I run Cassandra on my dual boot Dell 3000 (1 GB RAM, 40 GB HD) and it works great, but I encountered a minor error after I loaded Celena last night.

When I boot the machine with Celena a large black square occupies about one quarter of the screen with an error message: err 8. The black square & the error message disappears after I press the enter key twice, then the grub menu is presented and everything works fine. (I reinstalled again to see if that might correct the problem. Same issue.)

I reloaded Cassandra from one of my drive images.

Anybody suggest a possible fix so I can use Celena without the boot error?

I have exactly the same bug on my wife's laptop
She wanted to stay with Bianca and I told her how great Celena is
The laptop is a Dell too (D400). I tried installation four times (same issue). On my own laptop, no problem with same Live-CD
Other bug here, I have no splash picture when booting and when shutting down.

Doc, help us please...

PS - dualboot XP/Celena too, but I will not come back to Bianca/Cassandra. I would loose my face definitly

Solved, I think. I followed the posted instructions for "Linux Mint 3.1 Celena Upgrade Instructions" and...it worked! The boot error message is gone.

OTOH, I also experience this same bug on my Dell 3000 (this bug also exists on Ubuntu, by the way). So far, the only linux distro that shows the splash picture during boot with my machine is Freespire 2.0. No matter, the posted upgrade instructions eliminated the boot error issue.

Did the same last night with the same issue. Reinstall Cassandra + update to Celena.
But it would be interesting to know why we had this bug...

Well that's ok I guess, it's always been more of a republic than a democracy anyway and it's probably better that way. When people are in charge of everything things can get out of hands, you would have had to be right in the center (politically) to keep your head on your shoulders during la Terreur, or ready to turn your coat pretty fast and on more than one occasion

Did you watch "Marie Antoinette" from Sofia Coppola? I didn't like "Lost in Translation" but this one shows you what's happening a la Cour du Roi just before the revolution. Very refreshing and a brilliant performance from Kirsten Dunst.

Well how about "emperor" then? Surprisingly this is way more acceptable. Remember our ancestors (no no, not the Galls, the Romans) all they wanted was a Dictator... certainly not a King
