Mint 8 suddenly not booting !!SOLVED!!

Post by fumblejack »

I can't get my partition containing the Mint8 to mount. I get through the Grub, I get the mint splash logo to display for a minute, and then the screen goes black. When I press any key, I get a message in script, not in UI that says=

mount: mounting //dev/disk/by-uuid/HDD ID on/root
failed: Invalid argument
mount: mounting /dev on /root/dev failed: Nosuch file or directory
mount: mounting /sys on /root/sys failed: No such file or directory
mount: mounting /proc on /root/proc failed: No such file or directory
Target file system doesn't have /sbin/init.
No init found. Try passing init= bootarg

BusyBox v1.13.1 (Ubuntu 1:1.13.3-1ubuntu7) built-in shell (ash)

(initramfs)
and here i have a cursur

I wanted to try some things that I found on the forum, but when I try to mount the mint partition using LiveCD, I get error message saying=
'Error mounting: mount exited with exit code 32: mount: wrong fs type, bad option, bad superblock on /dev/sda5, missing codepage or helper program, or other error'

I am not sure what to do from here
Any ideas?

Code: Select all

sudo fsck /dev/sda5
From the live disk, is about all you can do, I think.

Did you have any problems during the last good run? Did it seem to shut down normally? sda5 is usually the first logical partition in an extended partition. Does that sound like where it was installed? Are the other partitions working OK?

That fixed it. I guess I will have to remember that one.

I am having a similar problem. I am using LM 8 2.6.31-22 generic.

While running in recovery mode I get a whole bunch of stuff but the last couple lines are

Mounting /dev on /root/dev failed: No such file or directory
Mounting /sys on /root/sys failed: No such file or directory
Mounting /proc on /root/proc: No such file or directory

Target filesystem doesn't have /sbin/init
No init found. Try passing init=bootarg

Does this sound like the same problem?

Thanks
