How to install on IBM pc300pl without boot from cd option

Postby tjksn on Sat Sep 29, 2007 7:11 pm

I just received an old IBM PC300PL that does not boot from CD. The specs as I know them right now are: PII, 256Mb ram, 20Gb HDD, 48X cdrom, with windows 98 installed. I have Celena 3.1 on CD, but since the PC won't boot from CD I would like to find out how to install it. Is there a boot floppy that can make this possible? Or do I need to look for a different distribution?

I did try updating the bios, but it gave me an error of not enough memory.

Edit: correction on the memory, it is only 128Mb pc700. I may try a memory stick from one of my other systems.

Linux Mint is funded by ads and donations.

I am not sure you have enough ram to start the LiveCD.
You could make a swap partition before booting the LiveCD.
I hope this link can help you.

Try putting the harddrive into another computer as a slave and try it that way.

Decided I'm just going to have it recycled as I don't really need it. Plus, I don't want something that needs proprietary memory. Thanks for the suggestions though.
