Spawning shell within initramfs
BusyBox v1.1.3 (Debian 1.1.3-3ubuntu3) Built-in shell (ash) Enter 'help' for a list of built-in commands.
/bin/sh; Can't access tty; job control turned off
(initramfs)
Tried suggestion from here:
Install & Boot (/bin/sh: can't access tty) [ Solution ]
and from here
http://ubuntuforums.org/showthread.php?t=421588
At the LiveCD initial boot screen:
o Select F6 for more options
o Add the following option to the beginning of the options list:
break=top
o Press enter to start booting
Ubuntu will start booting, but kick you out to a command prompt; at the prompt type these two commands:
modprobe piix
exit
...still will not boot into the LiveCD normally.
results:
(iinitramfs) modprobe piix
FATAL: Could not load /lib/modules/2.6.20-15-generic/modules.dep: No such file or directory

My first suspect is a faulty CD even though you checked the md5sum
You should burn at the slowest possible speed
I have a "problem computer" when it comes to installing (not after that) and I've not seen the error messages you describe.
Possibly break=top and break=button could be used.
And we don't have an alternate install - our resources are limited and it takes some work to produce such a CD

No. It's his IDE controller. Probably a Intel PIIX for which he'd need the 'piix' and/or 'ata_piix' module. If the CD were faulty that thing wouldn't even boot.Husse wrote:My first suspect is a faulty CD
Search the Ubuntu forums ... many people have that problem, me being one of them. Silly thing is that the workaround they suggest for Ubuntu 7.04 doesn't seem to work on Mint.
