Remove disc check from startup

Is there a way in mint 9 to remove that non working disc check from the startup? or is there a way to fix it, it gets a bit anoying when you start your pc up, walk away to make some coffee, come back only to find it stuck at disc checking with nothing happening and you have to press c to cancel. (i think its c)
