Oh dear. It really isn't that hard. You just tell it where you want your " / " (= 'root filesystem'; not to be confused with the 'root' super-user account) and then just let it install.

The " / " filesystem is the basis for *everything*, all other partitions such as /usr, /var, /home (if you created them that is ...) get mounted underneath it. If you did not create them --not suggested but apparently a very frequent phenomenon with you first-timers-- then they will just be folders underneath it.

In simple words: No " / " filesystem == No Linux.

It isn't that hard

If you want hassle-free computers with a UNIX-like operating system preinstalled, may I suggest this web site?

Dualboot problems

Post by bobpur »

IMO, using two harddrives is the best way to dualboot.
I'll just address the "Celena" install since I assume (yeah, I know) that you have a functional Windows install.
Unless you have something on the second drive you want to save,I'd just follow the prompts that the "Celena" disk shows you for formatting.Pick the "Use entire disk" option and let the install take care of itself.

Good Luck

There are definitely advantages in that.

Exactly. It isn't that hard.

It might be the hal.dll being broken somehow. This suggest some radical steps to fix this. I would suggest using a XP disc to repair your installation, and use Supergrub disk to restore grub.
