Installation hang

Post by lenOx_ »

Today I downloaded Linux Mint 10 and attempted to install it on my laptop. But it just hangs when booting from the LiveCD.

It hangs after this:
Loading/Casper/vmlinuz......
Loading/Casper/initrd.lz......
Ready

I have indeed searched the forum and Google, I have tried solutions posted, but only the "acpi=off" and "noacpi" worked, to which where I could install it. But not boot into Linux at all, just shows a black screen with an underscore blinking.

I have tried compatibility mode and "nomodeset" options, but nothing seems to work.

I have also checked the MD5 checksums and burnt both the CD and DVD versions at 4x.

Mint 9 did work correctly before, and I want a fresh install of the Linux system, I don't really want to install 9, then update it.

Laptop specs:
nVidia GeForce 120M
Intel Core 2 Duo T6400

Thanks in advance for your help.

**EDIT**
When using the compatibility mode, I get some text like this:
[2.662667] EISA: Cannot allocate resource for mainboard
[2.662735] Cannot allocate resource for EISA Slot 1 ( this goes up to slot 8 )

I'm not sure if that's the issue, I just thought I'd post up more information.

that's the error that I got ... :(

I re-checked the md5 checksum, & it was wrong !.
did another d/l & it was still wrong.

checked a 3rd time, & finally got the correct md5 checksum,
- not sure if the heavy d/l ing of LM10 is creating issues,
but it's been a while since I had any d/l error's.

finally got it running in Vbox, but is slow-ish.
I will eventually drop it onto the mint8 partition, in my testing PC. :)

I have posted a bit more information in the OP.

I've done a bit more of a search and I have tried the "nosplash" solution, but does not work at all.

I was hoping to get this working today. :(

**EDIT**

It all works nicely when I delete the "quiet splash", and replace it with "acpi=off".

Hey guys, sorry for another post.

But what does "acpi=off" actually do in regards to Linux Mint?

I don't use the hibernation/sleep features at all.

I have read about it on various sources, but I'm still not sure what it exactly does. Could someone clear that up a bit for me?
