Startup Disk Creator in the Control center Mint 10 Julia

Post by willie42 »

I have attempted to create a bootable USB using the Startup Disk creator in the control center and I come up with an error message

vesamenu.c32: not a COM32 Image

The checksum matched so I know its not that. Is this a possible bug ?

thanks

this is a known upstream bug from ubuntu. There already on this issue. For the current time. It seems that typing
live
seems to get it to boot. Others have claimed finding a ubuntu 10.04 version to write the iso, or copy the com32 image yourself. I suggest typing "live"

This may well be classic example of the problems of Mint being located just a little bit too far downstream - perhaps the continuing development of LMDE will provide the ultimate solution. I can confirm that USB sticks made with Disk Creator in Ubuntu 10.04 or Mint Isadora, or with Unetbootin in Mint Julia, work just fine. I haven't yet tried the "live" workaround, but this kind of intervention really, really shouldn't be necessary for a distro whose greatest (and usually very well-justified) claim to fame lies in its elegance, simplicity and transparency from the perspective of the newer Linux user.
