Screen locks repeatedly

After installing, and once when installing, the screen locks, and a hard reboot is all that will unlock it. I still have not managed to get all the updates installed because of the lock ups.
I am running also Peppermint Ice, PCLOS LXDE, Lupup 511, Zorin LXDE, with no issues. This seems to be the only distro doing this.

Perhaps I should have said this is the new Linux Mint 10.
