While booting, the error msg shows device not yet ready or n

Post by thamiziniyan »

I'm using linuxmint 9 isadora. While i'm using usb drive, I cannot format it. So I used gnome disk utility to format the drive. Then I shutdown the laptop, turn on some time later after the booting the screen says like this

THE DISK DRIVE FOR /MEDIA/SDC1 IS NOT READY YET OR NOT PRESENT.

CONTINUE TO WAIT; OR PRESS S TO SKIP MOUNTING OR M FOR MANUAL RECOVERY. I tried skip mounting option but the booting process never go into the further steps.

When I press m for MANUAL RECOVERY I get command line screen like terminial there I try TO mount and unmount specified partitions the result would be like this drive is NOT PRESENT or NOT mounted, while i'm doing this I inserted my usb drive.

How can I solve this issue? Could you help me?

Thanks in advance...

did you have the usb drive in when you set up Linux? there is a entry in the /etc/fstab that is looking for the thumb drive in order to boot. So to solve your problem this will need to be removed from the /etc/fstab.

some useful reading on the fstab.

Hi!
Similar thoughts as willie42:
If your USB is unplugged before booting, you can boot to your desktop?
You could try

Code: Select all

cat /etc/fstab
to see and

Code: Select all

gksudo gedit /etc/fstab
to edit.
