Which disk is Mint installed on?
What else (Windows?) do you have and how does it work?
I also see JMicron and according to some sources JMicron and Linux are not happy together...
And no - computers is no exact science

I think it was you that (in this forum) stated that Jmicron and Linux are not happy together

I did state that jmicron and Linux do not mix, On the distro I installed, the cdrom device could not be used because of no jmicron driver support, therefore I had to install from USB stick, thats why I suggested but reading again I see that installing is not the problem.
I mst read the questions, I must read.....
I had cyclical starts on occasions after the install, the same as the poster I ended up installing custom kernel from

I do not know how the latest kernels work but I know myself and others had lots of problems with jmicron

It's the Jmicron controller that gives you problems
Try editing /boot/grub/menu.lst and change the options "quiet splash --" with "nosplash noapic noacpi --".
It's only the first line with quiet splash you need to change (in the first go)
If you have success remove nosplash noapic noacpi one at a time to minimize the impact

Hi
I can not help you with font size but
try:
a)
modify the file
/boot/grub/grub.conf
add the parameter "all-generic-ide" to the line
keneral vmlinuz *************
heres an example of the appropiate section of grub..conf....

b) Get a different motherboard
c) try a netinstall CD of Debian,(lenny or from my above post) when installed:
and if it works OK
Do "apt-get install gnome"
"apt-get install xorg"
Add multimedia repositories

Hi
I meant get a motherboard without the Jmicron controller
as I think that is the cause of your problems.
I suggested Debian as that is is the only Linux I have installed
without problems with the jmicron, no you will not end up
with Mint
