I've been able to install Linux Mint on my iMac, but can't get a dual boot configuration going. Since the iMac doesn't have multiple internal disks I guess the easy way of doing this is out of the question. I'm not an expert on this but from what I've read the extra partition the Linux Mint installer creates for swap files is an obstacle to what I am trying to do. Don't ask me to explain the technical reasons for that cuz I can't.
Anyway, I'm wondering if there is some way for me to install Linux Mint on a single partition on my drive without an extra swap partition being created.

Dual booting Mac and Linux is possible on single disk.
But you need to have a boot loader to handle both OSes which has different file systems.
