Installing without CD
I'd like to try Mint XFCE, but I have a rather strange problem: My CD drive broke and I attached a portable (SONY) drive attached to a USB port. The drive does everything else, but it won't boot, and my BIOS won't accomodate a boot from USB. Is there any way, having unpacked the iso to a directory of my HD, I can boot it as a frugal install? I have GRUB 1 installed, and several linux versions on the menu.lst that work.

Re: Installing without CD
I had a similar situation and was able to boot from USB using "plop"

I used the install to existing drive option and it was perfect.
I found plop from here...might help you get a better understanding:
