Could not update ICEauthority error after installing Firefox

Hello guys,

I am new to Linux and new to Linux Mint. I have been using Linux Ubuntu for a month and decided to switch to Linux Mint 10. Everything went well and was working until I decided to upgrade to Firefox4. Now I get the following error when trying to boot:

Could not update ICEauthority file /home/george/.ICEauthority                                                                                                                  
 there is a problem with the configuration server. (usr/lib/libconfig24/gconfsanitycheck2 exited with status 256)                                                                                                                                         
 The panel encountered a problem while loading "OAFIID: GNOME_mintMenu"                                                                                                               
 The panel encountered a problem while loading "OAFIID: GNOME_IndicatorApplet" 
 Naulitis could not create the following reqiured folders: /home/george/Desktop, /home/george/. Naulitis  

Also once I log in my desktop is not my default gnome desktop there is no way to start any progams. The only thing I can do is launch a terminal by pressing CTL+ALT+T but my terminal shows the following:

bash: /home/george/.bashrc: Permission denied
george@geo/ $

Thanks for your prompt reply Willie. I tried every solution given on that thread you pointed out and nothing worked. Any other ideas?

Thanks, I will try that. Sorry if I am slow to respond, the only way I can connect to the internet is to boot in to windows.

Thanks for your help willie. I opted to do a clean reinstall as none of the solutions were working. Got it all working now.
