HP Omnibook 6100, no success :(

Hi all,

First i must say that Mint is one of the best distros i have tried. It suites me as half noob very well. It's a great distro with other words.

But i also have a slight problem when i try to install Linux Mint gnome/kde on my laptop (HP Omnibook 6100). Some time it will shut down when i try to start live. Other time it will suddenly shut down when i install the components between 60% to 90%.
And it's the same with Ubuntu so i don't think that it's some mint specific.

Have anyone any idea what i can do about it? If it's possible at all to install mint on my laptop?
When i install windows it works perfect, but with mint/ubuntu it always shut down in the install process.

I found a solution for the last problem in https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+s....20/+bug/89892
Rename the file "intel-rng.ko" in "intel-rng.ko.off". This makes the file invisible to the boot process
The file is in lib/modules/2.6.22-9-generic/2.6.22-9-generic/kernel/drivers/char/hw_random/

This is not solved yet in Kernel 2.6.22 !........"

I have looked in the ISO-file of mint but i can't find "intel-rng.ko". In what directory can i find it there?

You cannot change it on ISO, if you can find a way of installing it you can. There seems to be a problem with some
HP notebooks, best read all the way through this forum, there are
several parameters suggested to change at boot.

I have installed PCLinuxOS right now and it was no problem at all.
I will try some of the sugestions to see if it's possible to install my favorite dist (LinuxMint).
